Anguilla, located in the Eastern Caribbean is a tiny island with a big reputation, is a British Territory, 16
miles long, and 3 miles at the widest point. It is just one hour east of Puerto Rico. English is the official language of the country.
Getting there:
There are a number of options available for getting to this idyllic island. Visitors can fly directly into Anguilla’s Wallblake Airport from San Juan, Puerto Rico via American Eagle/American Airlines and LIAT, or opt to fly directly to St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Thomas or St. Kitts for easy transfer to Anguilla:
• from St. Maarten via scheduled and chartered air with WINAIR, LIAT
or via regularly scheduled ferries from Marigot Bay .
• from Antigua via LIAT and Caribbean Star
• from St. Thomas via American Eagle, LIAT, TransAnguilla and WINAIR
• from St. Kitts via LIAT and Caribbean Star

Immigration and Customs:
Passport and return or onward ticket are usually required, but entry requirements differ by country of origin. Contract the Agricultural Dept. (264) 497-2615 for info on pet, animal and seeing eye dog
importation.
Currency & Banking:
East Caribbean Dollar (EC$) with set rate of exchange US $1 = EC $2.7, (GBP = EC $5.0 but fluctuates daily). US $ are readily accepted throughout the island and other major currencies can be exchanged at all local banks.
US currency is widely accepted throughout the island. Prices on menus, in hotels and for activities are generally quoted in US dollars.
ATMs on Anguilla accept international bank cards. AS of 2006 there are several ATMs located conveniently throughout the Island: one each at National Bank of Anguilla (NBA), Scotia Bank, Caribbean Commercial Bank, Wallblake Airport, Island Gas Co., Ashley & Sons Grocery, Sydan’s, Romcan Grocery and Palma Plaza.
Climate & Clothing:
Anguilla has a pleasant, healthy, tropical marine climate with an annual rainfall that is low and erratic, ranging from 22 - 50 inches per year and average monthly temperatures of 80°F , or 27 degrees Centigrade. The island is continually cooled by prevailing trade winds, with little change of temperature in the summer. The hottest months of the year are from July to October and the coolest between December and February. The relative humidity is just over 75%. Water temperatures are in the upper 70°s to lower 80°s. Optimum diving conditions are in the summer months when visibility is at its highest and there are little or no ground seas.
Casual clothing in good taste is the rule. Short-shorts, bikinis, bra-type tops and topless for women is
undesirable in public places; nude and topless swimming and/or sunbathing are not permitted. All beaches
are public.
Electricity:
110 volts, 60 cycles (as in North America).
Transportation:
Driving is on the left. To rent a car on the island, a valid driver’s license from the resident country is needed to obtain a local driver’s license. Local driver’s license are available at car rental agencies and cost $20. Rental cars are readily available however reservations for ‘in season’ car rentals and children’s car sears should be made in advance.
Shopping:
There is not much shopping to be done on Anguilla, BUT St. Martin is just a short ferry ride away. Easy day trip ......with many fine shops of French & Caribbean influence.
